Our Vocabulary

At Better, we use the following terms and definitions.

“Abusive Language” means the use of remarks intended to be demeaning, humiliating, mocking, insulting, or belittling that may or may not be based on the actual or perceived race, colour, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity of an individual.

“Disinformation” means incorrect or misleading information which is deliberately deceptive as opposed to Misinformation which is incorrect or misleading information that is not intended to deceive.

“Echo” means a Post that has been shared within the Better platform, with or without comment.

“Handle” or “Username” means a unique identifier for how you're identified on Better. Handles are always preceded immediately by the @ symbol. For instance, Better Support is @BetterSupport. Your Name, on the other hand, does not have to be unique. It’s what helps people find the people and businesses they’re looking for, even if they don’t know your Better handle.

“Home Feed” means the list of Posts a User sees on their home screen.

“Illegal Content” means images, videos and any other form of visual or written content that is against the law in the jurisdiction where the User is located. Better will endeavour to report Illegal Content where and when it is observed or when the company is made aware of it by a User or any other person.

“Illegal Behaviour” means actions that are against the law in the jurisdiction where the User is located. (e.g. grooming, inciting violence, or sending unsolicited pornographic images) The details of what’s considered legal or not will vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. “Inauthentic account” means the collection of fake accounts, spammers and malicious bots.

“Misinformation” means incorrect or misleading information. It is differentiated from Disinformation, which is deliberately deceptive.

“Nefarious” means (typically of an action or activity) wicked or criminal.

“Name” means a public identifier, which is not unique, and helps Users find the people and businesses they’re looking for, even if they don’t know the Better handle. Names do not have to be the same as the Handle. For example, David Brown’s handle might be @4dmbrown, while his Name is “David Brown”.

“News Feed” means one-way, automated distribution of information via an API.
